Gotta Love These Hats

Hats are rampant in Great Britain, especially during traditional events like Royal Ascot, which always brings out, um, unusual headwear.

Harry Potter Jewelry

Tuesday July 14, 2009
Fans are ready for the next installment of Harry Potter, to be released tomorrow, July 15th. The last book, Deathly Hallows, will be shown in two installments, giving us more time for Harry Potter withdrawal, but it's hard to believe that we're almost at the end of the series. You'll find lots of mementos in this assortment, like Luna Lovegood's radish earrings (part of a 4-piece set), a Dumbledore's Army messenger bag and the Golden Snitch pendant necklace illustrated here.

Tourmaline Jewelry

Sunday July 12, 2009
Tourmaline is a gemstone that exists in many colors, but pinks, purplish-reds and greens seem to be the most commonly seen shades. Not all tourmaline jewelry is affordable, especially if it's mixed with other gems, but much of it is priced right -- especially when compared with other gems of the same colors. Green tourmaline is a good example of a gemstone that costs significantly less than another green favorite -- emerald.

Jewelry at the Harry Potter Premiere

Wednesday July 8, 2009
In typical British fashion, jewelry was somewhat understated at the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince world premiere in London. J K Rowling wore a huge pair of chandelier earrings and Helena Bonham Carter's dog tag pendants were engraved with the names of her children. Daniel Radcliffe was one of the cast members who wore a white wrist-ribbon in memory of Rob Knox, a young man who appeared in the film but was murdered in 2008.

Recycle Your Old Jewelry

Monday July 6, 2009
A few jewelry making pliers, a little bit of epoxy and a small batch of old costume jewelry -- that's all it takes to turn styles you don't wear into fresh, new designs. Mix and match components, and if you don't like what you create, take them apart and do it again.
