Stretching Your Ear Lobe Piercings

Wednesday May 31, 2006
People either love them or hate them--pierced earrings made with real thick, decorative posts and rings. Getting the holes in your lobes large enough to insert the thicker jewelry is sometimes called gauging. You have to stretch the holes gradually, because enlarging them too quickly is painful--ouch--and can injure your skin. Use a gauge chart to compare jewelry thickness and to target how large you want your ear lobes to go.

What is your suggestion if you have stretched holes and you want to go back to wearing pierced earings. It seem that there is more of a variety of pierced earings thatn clips……

It depends on the size of your lobes. As you’ll often see, it’s stated that once you hit 2g-0g, your lobes won’t close back up to a normal earring post size [between 20g-16g normally]. But, as you’ll also see, this depends on each individuals body. If you’re looking to close up your lobes, take out whatever jewelry may be in there and see where it takes you. Vitamin E oil is also recommended often. If your lobes are too large and won’t close up to the “standard” size, there are certain surgical procedures that can be looked into.

The only good advice on stretching in this and her other posts about stretching is to go ask a professional piercer.

i wouldnt recommend using tapers as they can cause blowouts and other nasty things. I personally recommmend using teflon tape but remember to change the tape every few days. It doesnt hurt as much either. I just tried my first taper which was from 2ga to 0ga and they hurt like a bitch!

I Recently Bought A 6mm Taper And Flesh Plug…It Only Took Me About 5 Days To Stretch My Ear And Get The Plug In…My Mum Is Really Bothered That I May Have To Have A Sergical Procedure To Get My Ear Lobe Hole Back To A Normal Size….I Heard That Aslong As You Hole Is Below 9mm Then It WIll Eventually Go Back To Normal Size If You Take Out Tyhe Plug/Tunnel…Is This True Or Is Ther eAnyway To Get Rid Of The Big Hole If I Dont Want It Anymore??
Im Only 15 And Have Been Told That Job Interviewers Will Turn You Down If You Have A Flesh Plug In Your Ear…I Got It To Show My Individuality And To Show That I Am Not The Same As Everybody Else…One I Have Shrunken My Hole Again….Can I Stretch It Back If I Want It Later On In Life??
Sorry That Its An Essay But Just Want To Know Facts Because I Dont Want To Have A Big Hole In My Ear For The Rest Of My Life If I Dont Want It When Im Older…If That Makes Any Sense
Thanks x
