Jewelry Find: Tairona Multistrand Necklace
Sunday June 1, 2008
Drape four-strands of beads around your neck for a virtual trip back to the pre-Columbian culture that existed at about 1100 A.D. The necklace was inspired by ancient artifacts from that time and was handcrafted by today's artisans using the lost-wax metal casting process. It's 18" long and each necklace is unique, made from stones like tiger eye, aventurine, jasper and African turquoise (which is actually a type of jasper, not turquoise at all), along with 24-karat gold-plated brass.
