How to Clean and Care for Your Cultured Pearls
Friday May 1, 2009
It's exciting to see all the different colors and shapes of cultured pearls that are being used in contemporary jewelry, and some of my personal favorites are created when pearls are combined with colorful gems. But pearls get dirty, just like any other gem, and you have to clean them carefully to avoid damage. Use these pearl cleaning tips to make sure your pearls live a long and lovely life.

Great advice! I just inherited pearls that were originally my great-grandmother’s. Although I love the sentimental value, they were a
little bit worn looking and clearly in need of some substantial sprucing up. I went to JIC’s (Jewelry Information Center)
website (www.jic.org) where I was able to get just about all the cleaning tips I needed. I know it might sound early to pass these pearls on, but a niece of mine is graduating from college very soon and I am thinking about giving her those pearls. Otherwise, I have done my fair share of research on JIC’s site and have gotten some great inspiration from some of the jewelry they have featured on there. No matter what, it’s a HUGELY important occasion, and I can’t really think of a more appropriate way to celebrate it than with a piece of fine jewelry.
I heard about JIC from a friend a little while back - and I’ve found it useful in a bunch of different situations. It’s always nice to have a dependable “go-to” for various things - and this site is definitely my go-to for all of my jewelry queries. If you check it out, make sure to visit the jewelry stories section, where people, myself included, contribute their own personal jewelry story for others to read. And I suggest you add your own story to share with others, AND… if you submit a story, you’re entered into the JIC Sweepstakes to win a beautiful Kay Jeweler’s white gold diamond
necklace! It’s a win-win, so I recommend taking a look at JIC and taking part!
Good luck,
Laur
