Did you know that there are ways to make a diamond appear larger than it actually is? The final look of any gemstone depends on a combination of its cut, shape and setting, and you can alter one or more of those characteristics to make a diamond look larger than its true carat weight.

You offer a great suggestion in the Marquise Cut for those who are on a tight budget. It has the largest crown area (what you see when you look down at the diamond in the ring) per carat of any diamond shape. The elongated shape also helps diamonds under half a carat hold their own in a setting.
