This gold earring was found at the City of David archaeological excavation below the Old City walls in East Jerusalem, Israel. A large pearl is inlaid at the top center of the earring, and surrounded by a coiled gold hoop. Two pendants hang below the focal pearl -- each one features an emerald an a pearl.
The earring was discovered in the ruins of a building that dates to the Byzantine period (4th-5th Centuries AD), but archaeologists at the site believe it is much older and was created during the Roman period, about 2,000 years ago.
