Whitney Houston had a huge impact on our culture. A strong, graceful African American singer, she inspired a generation of female vocalists, including Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera.
Whitney's death added a somber note to the 2012 Grammy Awards, held just one day later. Many musicians stopped on the red carpet to comment on the loss, and LL Cool J, the 2012 Grammy Awards Host, began awards night with a moment of silence for Whitney. The evening's production included a tribute to Whitney, showing past acceptance speeches at the Grammy Awards.
While she undoubtedly made poor choices during her life -- drug use and years of enduring a tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown -- Whitney Houston was a strong woman who was respected and loved by her fans and her peers.
Houston was 48 when she passed away, leaving behind her 18 year old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and other family members.
