Simple but Elegant Jewelry Took Center Stage at the 2005 Emmy Awards

Maybe it was the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that kept the celebs from getting too glitzy with their jewels at the 2005 Emmy Awards ceremonies, or maybe they've developed a simpler, more elegant fashion sense since the 2001 World Trade Center attacks first encouraged a toned-down look for attendees.

Whatever the reason, most of the jewelry celebrities are wearing looks better than ever. Diamond stud earrings were top choices at the Emmys and platinum seemed to be the most popular metal on necks, fingers, ears and arms.

Many of the stars, including host Ellen Degeneres, wore magnolia pins by designer Michelle Roy in honor of Hurricane Katrina victims and survivors--magnolia is the state flower of both Louisiana and Mississippi. Ms. Roy plans to donate the proceeds from the sale of her silk pins to the Red Cross.

Ellen also wore a diamond and platinum chain that reflected the lights beautifully.

Gold jewelry wasn't entirely forgotten. "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria stacked her arm with yellow gold bangle bracelets and Mariska Hargitay wore gold jewelry by Faraone Mennella.
