Women in the United States wear hats to keep warm and we throw on the standard fare to create a look, but most of us don't have fun with our hats. Not so in other parts of the world, especially in Great Britain. Hats come out for traditional events like Royal Ascot, an annual race that was founded by Queen Anne in 1711. The Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show is another event that brings out the headwear, and European Royals don't need an excuse to buy a new hat.
In the U.S., southern ladies don sunhats to keep them cooler during the annual Kentucky Derby, and an occasional Easter Parade gets dressy hats out of boxes. Maybe we should take a cue from our neighbors across the ocean and wear hats for the sake of wearing hats. Get whimsical with it and have some fun.
