Fun & Funky Critter Brooches

Fun Pins for Every Budget

By Carly Wickell, About.com

Here are some fun and funky brooches that are all jeweled interpretations of some of your favorite little critters. These brooches are perfect to pin on your favorite ensemble, or you can wear them on your purse or in your hair. Each category takes you to a large selection of jewelry in a wide range of prices -- there's a brooch here for every budget.

1. Butterfly Brooches

You'll find all sorts of butterfly pins here. If you like pearls combined with gemstones, you're in luck, because some butterflies are fashioned with those components. For a little more flash, go with the Swarovski crystal butterflies, or choose a butterfly made entirely from a metal.

2. Frog Brooches

Jumping frogs and sitting frogs -- all of these little frogs are cute as can be. Some are set with colored gemstones and some have glittery rhinestones along their backs. Some of the cutest frogs have long, delicate legs that look ready to spring to life.

3. Ladybug Pin

The ladybug is an exception for this collection -- it's a single pin by Jay Strongwater. You can choose a black, green, or red ladybug in handpainted enamel over metal. The little lady has gold-tone trim and two Swarovski crystals on its back. It measures about 1/2" square.

4. Dragonfly Brooches

I have another collection of Top Picks jewelry that's devoted entirely to draongflies, but this link takes you to dragonfly brooches. And there are some pretty examples here, from plain metal dragonflies to little guys adorned with gemstones and enamel.
