Lapis lazuli is a deep blue gemstone that has varying amounts of veining, partly from calcite and sodalite. Pyrite creates the golden flecks visible in some lapis. Shop for jewelry and you'll find lapis combined with other gemstones, partly due to its cost but also because it mixes so well with other earthy colors. Lapis has traditionally been used as a healing gem, and is said to be good for relieving pain and to boost the immune system.
