Twilight Background
The book series written by Stephenie Meyer has created a lot of buzz – so much that the first, Twilight, was made into a movie in 2008, only three years after being published. The second book in the series, New Moon, is due in theaters in November, 2009.The series, inspired by a dream Meyer’s had, is the complicated love story of a human girl, Bella Swan, and a vampire, Edward Cullen.
Bella met Edward on her first day at a new high school. Readers discover that it took all of Edward's strength not to lure Bella away and kill her that first day. But their story truly begins when the two realize they are in love, although Edward remains conflicted about their relationship throughout most of the book series, knowing that he puts her in danger just by being with her.
In New Moon, readers get to know Jacob, the laid-back guy who shows Bella a different side of love, the love of a best friend. Jacob's Native American heritage brings a unique slant to the popular series.
