America's 2009 economy may be down, but the downslide was not apparent at this year's Academy Awards presentations, where diamonds and platinum once again ruled. Of course, a large percentage of the celebrities who arrive draped in jewels don't actually own the jewelry -- it's all on loan. And who wouldn't want to play dress up with hundreds of thousands of dollars in diamonds?
Jewelry styles were varied, as they are at every red carpet event, but stacked bangles continue to be popular, along with large cocktail rings and a growing number of chunky and long necklaces.
Amy Adams and Angelina Jolie moved away from the crystal-clear look, using bold jewelry to give their ensembles a color boost. Mickey Rourke took another route entirely by wearing a necklace that was all about sentiment.
