Jewelry at the 80th Annual Academy Awards Presentations

Diamonds and red gowns of all shades ruled at the 2008 Academy Awards, with black gowns coming in a close second.

Most of the celebrities stuck with the glitz, wearing white or colorful diamonds set in gold or platinum. We saw more of the chandelier and large drop and pendant earrings that have appeared at recent awards events, and many women decided to put the showy necklaces back on after going bare-necked for a few years. Nicole Kidman brought neck attire back in a big way by wearing an incredible diamond sautoir, a long rope-like necklace with a total diamond weight of about 1400 carats.

Diamond hair accessories were popular and so were brooches. Some celebrities chose wide, but open, bracelets. Others, like Renee Zellweger, opted for a medley of bracelets to wrap around their wrists.
