California Suing Retailers for Non-Disclosure of Lead in Jewelry

The state of California is suing several major retailers, saying they broke state law by not warning customers that some of the jewelry they sell contains lead, which causes health problems. The lawsuits involve well known stores, including Wal-Mart, Toys "R" Us, Macy's, J.C. Penney and others.
Tested jewelry contained enough lead to put it above the levels required for disclosure in California. Lead from jewelry can be absorbed into the body, where it can cause many problems, including stunted growth in children. Most of the jewelry involved is targeted at teens and younger children.
